Eugster Eier is a Swiss egg producer and processor producing approximately three to four million eggs every year. Alongside fresh eggs, the company processes eggs into products including whole egg, egg yolk, egg white, peeled eggs and hard-boiled eggs.

With different products, pack sizes and customer-specific packaging requirements, Eugster Eier needed a more flexible way to manage its label production. The company introduced the ANYTRON ANY-002 digital color label printer to bring roll label printing in-house.

A Growing Egg Production and Processing Business

The history of Eugster Eier goes back to the 1950s, when the business was started by the current owner’s father. Since then, the company has continued to grow from a poultry farm into an operation that combines egg production, processing and packaging.

Today, the company produces around three to four million eggs annually. Freshly laid eggs are either packed for retail or processed into a variety of egg products such as whole egg, egg yolk and egg white. The company also produces peeled and hard-boiled egg products.

Packaging formats vary according to the product and customer. Retail eggs can be supplied in six-packs, ten-packs and other configurations, while individual packs can also be prepared according to customer requirements.

Managing Different Labels for Different Production Needs

As the range of products and packaging formats increased, label production became more varied as well.

Different products required different label designs, and the number of labels required could change considerably from one production job to another. Some orders called for relatively small quantities, while others required larger runs.

For Eugster Eier, depending entirely on an external printing company made it harder to manage these variations directly. The company wanted greater control over when labels were produced and how many were printed for each job.

Bringing Digital Roll Label Printing In-House

Eugster Eier decided to move to digital roll label printing and installed an ANYTRON ANY-002 digital color label printer.

With the ANY-002 available inside its own facility, the company could prepare labels according to its production requirements rather than coordinating every print job with an outside supplier.

Labels could be produced in smaller quantities for individual jobs or in larger runs when required. This suited a production environment where packaging formats and order quantities could vary depending on the customer.

The ability to handle label production internally gave Eugster Eier a more direct connection between packaging requirements and label printing.

Labels for a Wide Range of Egg Products

Eugster Eier uses labels across different types of egg products and packaging formats.

Retail egg packs vary by pack quantity and egg weight, while processed egg products require different product information and label formats. This means a single fixed label design is not enough for the company’s daily production.

Digital printing with the ANY-002 allows the company to handle these variations within one printing workflow and produce labels according to the quantity required for each product.

Adding a Second ANY-002

After gaining experience with the first ANY-002, Eugster Eier decided to expand its in-house label printing setup with a second unit.

The additional installation was part of the company’s effort to make its digital label production process more professional and better suited to regular production.

Rather than changing to another printing platform, Eugster Eier continued with the ANY-002 and expanded the existing setup.

More Control and Greater Flexibility

By bringing digital label printing in-house, Eugster Eier gained more control over the timing and quantity of its label production.

The company can prepare labels according to actual production requirements, whether the job involves an individual label design in a smaller quantity or a larger run for regular production.

Most importantly, the company is less dependent on an external printer and can manage label production alongside its own packaging workflow.

The later addition of a second ANY-002 shows how digital label printing became an established part of Eugster Eier’s production environment.
